Re: One way to fix Toronto's poor design
Thanks for this excellent item by Shawn Micallef. Now, taking into account all the seniors, like myself, in Toronto who really do not want to end up in a long-term "care" jail, and all the people of every age with disabilities (including children!), let's mandate that all new housing be Universal Design (accessible to everyone of any age or ability). We need an "Office of the City Designer and Architect" to ensure that housing design is not only attractive but accessible. StatsCan reports that 28% of Ontarians have a disability. However, when you add all the seniors, the number is far higher. Builders ignore this huge market segment. But the City can ensure that Human Rights are no longer ignored in housing design decisions.
